He had dengue and fell into a coma. I found out a couple of hours ago that he’d passed away. I never got to meet him because I haven’t really hung out with her since college, but I looked at his Facebook profile out of curiosity. Right now, people are leaving him messages about how much he meant to them, how much they loved him; beautiful things — a testimony to the kind of person he was.
It got me wondering, why do we never say these things until it’s too late? When my friend Camille died in our junior year of high school, there was such a great outpouring of love, and sometimes I wondered if she might have lived if she’d known how we felt about her. Why do we never tell those we care for about the myriad ways they make our world wonderful? It saddened me to know that there was such an expression of love for this guy I never met that he’ll never have the opportunity to hear.
Tell someone today. It can be one person, it can be all your friends, but please, if someone matters to you even in the slightest of ways, let them know. Don’t keep your love hidden away. It’s easy to say that you express your love in your actions towards another person, but I think everyone can attest to the fact that sometimes you really need to hear it. Sometimes it really needs to be said to you for it to really sink in.
For the record, Tumblrfolks — followers and followed alike: I love you. You never fail to put a smile on my face every day.
